Results of Surprise Cash Counts and Review of Petty Cash Funds at the PW/Bureau of Street Services

The Controller’s Office conducted surprise cash counts at the Public Works (PW)/Bureau of Street Services’ (BSS) Street Services Investigation & Enforcement Division (SSIED), the Financial Management Division (FMD), and the Engineering Division. The purpose of these surprise cash counts is to ensure that collections and authorized Petty Cash/Change Funds are accounted for properly; that adequate controls are in place over these funds; and that Petty Cash Fund (PCF) authorized amounts are intact and controls are in place for PCF expenditures.

We counted $28,404, consisting of currency and checks. This amount represented change funds of $125, collections of $27,279 and petty cash funds of $1,000.
